Summer Enrichment FAQ

"Chemistry is a Blast" but, before we can start with the fun, it is important to get all of the information. Below are commonly asked questions regarding the Summer Enrichment Program.

Q: How has COVID-19 affected the program?

A: Summer Enrichment 2020 was cancelled, however even with continuing restrictions we may now hold a pared back program for summer 2021. The 2021 Chemistry Practicum will not award university credit, but costs significantly less and still provides wonderful hands on experience with experienced instructors.

Q: What are student options for transportation?

A: Students are able to purchase a parking pass through commuting services or purchase a UTA Youth Summer Pass at the Union. The Stadium TRAX station is less tahn a five minute walk from the chemistry labs.

Q: What material will be covered in this course?

A: Topics will include: development of chemical bonding, molecular architecture, organic chemistry, coordination chemistry, and nuclear chemistry. This course will include: lectures, labs, field -trips, and seminar speakers.

Q: I work at the University of Utah. Is my child eligible for tuition reduction?

A: The Summer Enrichment Program is no longer eligible for the tutition reduction program.

Q: I misplaced the flyers that were sent to us and missed the deadline for registration. Can I register late?

A: There is limited seating within the course. Once the seats have been filled, registration is closed. Please contact Zane Bellows (zbellows@chem.utah.edu) for questions about registration.

Q: I live over an hour away from campus. Is there an option for campus housing?

A: Unfortunately, the University of Utah does not allow minors to stay on campus without an adult. If your student is interested in the program, the family is responsible for housing/transportation.
