Ron Legge, the president of The American Scientific Glassblowers Society, announced in April 2023 that Mr. Kevin Teaford from U Chemistry had been chosen to receive the society's highest award, The J. Allen Alexander Award.

Mr. Legge stated, “Through the years, his contributions to the ASGS have been stunning. He has served our society in many capacities, but his current activities have helped the ASGS achieve its mission statement. The objectives of the ASGS are to further the education of its membership through the gathering, promotion, and dissemination of technical and scientific information concerning all aspects of scientific glassblowing.

Kevin has learned and honed his scientific glassblowing skills to where he has achieved excellence in the craft and is one of our finest instructors. He is the committee chair for one of our most challenging committees, The Allen B. Brown Seminar Program. Kevin is responsible for the advanced training of twelve students in this annual program. He plans this two-day seminar's curriculum, recruits’ glassblowers to assist him in the instruction, solicits the donation of raw materials, assembles his teaching facility in the symposium hotel, and finally instructs in the seminar.”

This award is only given to a select group of members in recognition of their outstanding contributions to furthering the aims and ideals of the ASGS.
