Jeff Statler, Solar System and Planets
Jeff Statler, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, spent the summer solstice assisting British particle physicists Brian Cox and his BBC filming crew in the high Uintah Mountains. The BBC is currently in Utah for the filming of a new series on our Solar System and its Planets. As you may know, Venus has a particularly nasty sulfuric acid laden atmosphere. As an illustration of the severely caustic nature of sulfuric acid, the show’s producers were interested in the sulfuric acid & table sugar demonstration. With Jeff’s guidance in safety and protocols, this eclectic group of film makers and scientists enjoyed great weather for several “takes” filming and narrating this demonstration.
