Awardees at the STEM Safety Day 2024
On September 6, 2024, the University of Utah held the STEM Safety Day, which brings faculty, staff, and experts together for laboratory, classroom, and workplace safety training and updates. This multi-campus partner event is hosted by the College of Science, Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, John and Marcia Price College of Engineering, College of Pharmacy, and Environmental Health and Safety.
The STEM Safety Day offers seminars, training, and sessions designed to help our community better understand and mitigate health and safety hazards associated with working in STEM fields at the U.
Ryan Looper, Professor and Jon M. Huntsman Presidential Chair, and Jim Muller, Director of Facilities for College of Science, both faculty members in the Department of Chemistry, were awarded the 2024 Environmental Health and Safety Partner Award.
Jim Muller stated, “I am honored to receive the 2024 EHS Partnership Award and would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone involved in this decision. This recognition means a great deal to me, and I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement from the faculty, students, and staff.”
Frederick A. Monette, M.S., CHP, Executive Director, Radiation Safety Officer, Environmental Health and Safety, noted: “The EHS Partnership Award recognizes faculty and staff members who exemplify an outstanding commitment to safety as a core value and routinely partner with EHS in nurturing a culture of safety at the University of Utah.”
