Hershel Lackey
Graduate Student
About me: I grew up in Hickory and Charlotte, NC. In 2007, I graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a BS in Chemistry and minor in Mathematics. I commissioned in the Air Force upon graduation, and have served at the following locations:
--2007-2009: Air Force Research Labs, Tyndall AFB, FL
--2009-2010: Florida State University, Air Force Institute of Technology Program, Tallahassee, FL
--2010-2013: Air Force Technical Application Center, Patrick AFB, FL
--2013-2016: United States Air Force Academy, USAFA, CO
Most recently, I was selected for the faculty pipeline at the Air Force Academy to return to school to earn a doctorate degree in chemistry. Jen kindly invited me to work with her at the University of Utah, and I joined her lab in September 2016.
After I complete my PhD, I will likely manage DOD research and acquisition projects. Eventually I plan to return to Air Force Academy to continue my work as an instructor. I enjoy a diverse range of activities outside of the Air Force and chemistry. These include fishing, SCUBA diving, hiking, reading, and playing computer games.
